Comparing Capacity

Today we spent some time exploring the concept of capacity.  We first started with the concepts of full/empty and then moved to examining containers to determine which held more or less of a substance. The Kiddoes were shocked to learn they couldn't always trust their eyes to give them correct answers! Many figured any container that was tall and skinny could always hold more than a shorter/wider container. I gave the Kiddoes some time in groups to explore and then we met together to discuss our findings. I was pleased to see that the Kiddoes were able to recognize that emptying the contents of a container into another is a way to compare capacities!
