Yesterday we spent some time producing our 'New K
Orientation Video'. We gathered on the carpet and I showed the Kiddoes
how to use the app 'iMovie' to compile all our photos and video clips, edit and
insert the musical background. At each step, the Kiddoes had to collaborate and
negotiate in order to come to final decisions. It was amazing to step back and
watch as they did this independently. They sure have come a long way this year
as a group to be able to accomplish this task.
During this student led project, all students helped to brainstorm, write, direct, star in and produce the video. Each was given the opportunity to participate in the capacity that was most comfortable. Multiple curricular outcomes were met: CCK.1 - Compose and create various visual, multimedia, oral, and written texts that explore and present thoughts, ideas, and experiences, CCK.2 - Use and construct symbols, pictures, and dramatizations to communicate feelings and ideas in a variety of ways, CCK.4 - Create messages using a combination of pictures, symbols, and letters, DRK.1 - Describe the spatial relationships among people, places, and environments. Perhaps though, the most important learning from this experience was in the empowerment of the students to understand their ideas are important and they are able to independently wonder, learn and create. I am so proud of how they collaboratively took this project on as their own and produced a fantastic movie!
