Building Permits

 A key component of play based learning is being able to incorporate curriculum outcomes into incidental learning that occurs during free choice exploration. There are times where we will sit down and explicitly learn how to print correctly, however, practice will often be during play opportunities without the Kiddoes even realizing it. Today I introduced 'Building Permits' to our block center. I told the Kiddoes a story about building a new shower and then realizing after I was done I found out I needed a building permit. We decided that if in the real world we needed building permits, then we needed them in our room! From today on, if anyone wishes to play in the block center, he/she must first obtain a building permit. Kiddoes need to write their name and the date and hand it in to obtain a sticker that enables them to play in the block area. For many, they are practicing their printing without even realizing it,
