Guess My Sorting Rule

Today we had our first formal 'Math Time'. Over the next few weeks, we will be spending time discussing the concept of sorting. Today saw us learning how to recognize and describe different attributes of objects (i.e. round, big, long, colour etc). We divided into groups with a basket full of random objects. Each Kiddoe had multiple turns to try and trick his/her friends by creating sorting rules with the objects (i.e. All the objects are orange. All the objects are round. All the objects are the same size). As I walked around, I was incredibly proud of the Kiddoes and how they were  working in their groups, as this was the first time we have tried this style of learning. I challenged the Kiddoes to see if they could find a few random objects at home and then try and 'trick' their Mom, Dad, sister, brother with their sorting rule!

*** Please note: There can only be ONE sorting rule for a group of objects your child puts together. (i.e. "They are all round." as opposed to "These two are round and these four are orange.") If you find they are putting objects together with multiple rules, have them choose only two objects. This helps with defining ONE rule!******
