We have started 'Math Time' in Kindergarten! Over the next
few weeks, we will be spending time discussing the concept of sorting. This
past week we have been learning how to recognize and describe different
attributes of objects (i.e. round, big, long, colour etc). We divided into
pairs with baskets full of random objects. Each Kiddoe had multiple turns to
try and trick his/her friends by creating sorting rules with the objects (i.e.
All the objects are orange. All the objects are round. All the objects are the
same size). The Kiddoes did a wonderful job working with partners to create a
sorting rule. Today they started to get quite tricky with their sorting rules
(i.e. things that you can tickle somebody with, things that have holes, etc.) I
was so proud of them as they explained their sorting rules to me!!
*** Please note: There can only be ONE sorting rule for a group of objects your child puts together. (i.e. "They are all round." as opposed to "These two are round and these four are orange.") If you find they are putting objects together with multiple rules, have them choose only two objects. This helps with defining ONE rule!******
