We were very fortunate to attend a fieldtrip to Wascana Marsh today! The weather was absolutely frigid, but we had a great time. When we boarded the bus at school, we were all very excited! Once we arrived at the Marsh, Sarah (the ecologist from Wascana Autority) challenged us to be like rabbits and go exploring off the path. Sarah taught us many interesting facts about wild plants, animal scat and animal/bird habitats. We spent some time on a scavenger hunt that let us explore the marsh and see if we could use our new found knowledge. The highlight of the day was getting to visit the Water Fowl Sanctuary. Once inside the sanctuary, Sarah taught us about the birds the sanctuary housed over the winter. We learned information about pelicans, geese, swans, and ducks. The best part of the sanctuary was watching Sarah throw a fish into the pelican enclosure and seeing how the pelican was able to swallow it whole. We were excited that such amazing birds lived in our city. Take a look at the videos below to see our exciting adventure.
