Ghostly 'oo's'

This week I introduced the Kiddoes to a new 'chunk' in our evolving reading strategies. We learned that when we see two 'oo' it makes the sound like a ghost... oooooooooo

When you are reading with your child at home, ask them if they can remember what good readers do. We are learning the first thing a good reader does is look at the pictures for clues about the words. Next, a good reader will look for chunks in the words (i.e. squeally ee's or ghostly oo's). See if you can find any on the page. Finally, a good reader will try and sound the words out. Don't try all of them, but try a few per page! The goal right now is for the Kiddoes to feel confident about themselves and view themselves as readers no matter their developmental level. Having strategies upon which to rely boosts confidence and in turn builds perseverance. Perseverance will aid in their emerging literacy development!
