Empathy Project Cont...

Once the Kiddoes decided they wanted to make one large card for 'Addie', we brainstormed ideas about how we could do this. It was decided we wanted to give her a 'high five'. The morning Kinders wanted to make a 'hand tree' and the afternoon Kinders wanted to make a 'hand wreath'. Each Kiddoe had an opportunity to add to the card. Once this was finished, the Kiddoes decided they wanted to make individual decorations/messages for Addie. We created a list of materials they thought they would need and then with the assistance of their reading buddy, they sat down to craft a special heartfelt message. When this step was completed, as a class we sat together to finalize our card and write a special message to Addie. Take a look at the videos below to see our journey so far.

Once the cards were finished, the Kiddoes and I talked about how amazing it felt to be able to bring peace to a family and change the world for one little girl. Once again, the Kinders were learning the powerful message that even though they are small, they can still change the world one small act at a time. I was shocked when Kiddoes from both classes pondered the possibility of how we could bring even more peace to Addie. It wasn't long before someone suggested the idea of making more cards. The more we talked about this idea, the more animated the Kiddoes became. Soon, they questioned if they could ask other students in the school to make cards. Quickly, our small project turned into a large project. We decided we needed a plan about how we were going to do this. After tossing around a few ideas, the Kiddoes decided they wanted to go door to door on Monday, explain our project and ask the other students in the school to help. It is amazing to watch the Kinders take control of an idea and create a plan. Stay tuned to see how this project progresses.
