An Awesome Suprise

On Thursday, the Kindergarten classes had a special visitor to the room. Susan, (Ms. S's mom) came to talk to us about snakes. We quickly found out she was a 'snake expert'! We were very excited to see she brought with her an actual 'snake skin' she found on the farm. We learned all about how snakes molt. Susan was able to answer many questions with which we were having trouble. The best part of the morning came when we found out that Susan brought a live garter snake which she was able to capture at her farm. We were able to take a close look at the snake and learned even more information from being able to study it live. Each Kiddoe had the chance to come up and take a look.

We learned that there wasn't any need to hurt the snake in order for us to study and learn from it. We were relieved to know that Susan was going to take it back to the farm as garter snakes will live and hibernate in the same spot for their whole lives! We all agree.... the more we learn about garter snakes, the more we think that they are pretty cool rather than scary!!
