Continuing with our unique theme, we took some time this
morning to discuss how the things we like is another way we are unique. After
reading the book, "Odd Velvet", we chatted about the variety of
things each of us like. It was a lively discussion as we found some of our
friends enjoyed very "unique" things. We decided to create class
books as a way to share some of our favourite things. Using magazines, flyers
and their artistic abilities, the Kiddos went to work creating a "my
favourite things" page.
This afternoon, we spent
some discussing how our families make us unique. We talked about the ways that
families can be different (or unique), and then the Kiddos had the opportunity
to share their family photo with the class in a talking circle and tell us all
about who is in their family. They were then given the opportunity to walk
around and chat with each other about their families. The Kiddos were so
excited to share the special people in their lives and we all learned a lot
about each other! We read a book after about siblings, grandparents, and relatives
that live near and far. It was interesting to hear the conversations taking
place as the Kiddos shared their connections to the book. By the end of the
day, it was pretty obvious we all have amazing and unique families!
