Friday Update!!

We have been up to quite a few interesting things this week. Our research into garter snakes continued with us heading to the library to see if we could find some books to help us in our task. Once in the library we learned how to use the Dewey Decimal System to find books that would help us. The Kiddoes were quick to point out that we were in the Non-Fiction part of the library and that these books should help us find 'real' information!

We found a great book we hoped would be able to help us. When we got back to the room we discussed what a table of contents was and how it can help readers to quickly find specific information. Both classes chose the same topic first to research: What garter snakes eat! Before opening to this page, we had a discussion about carnivores/herbivores/omnivores and that pictures in this book aren't scary, but actually science. The Kiddoes were excited to learn what garter snakes eat, and happy to know we aren't considered small prey! Today, instead of welcome time, both classes asked right off the bat if we could read another section of the book. Needless to say, this project seems to be engaging everyone!

In other news, in the maker space section of the room, I set up materials for the Kiddoes to use in order to create marble mazes this week. I have been astonished by the concentration, collaboration, and conversations I have heard all week. Each day a new material was introduced and new questions to further ideas and investigations. I am excited to see how this keeps building next week!

Quick Note:

This week's poem was written each day by the Kiddoes using our new popcorn word 'like'. As we finished it today, I will type it up this weekend to send home on Monday!

Have a great weekend!
