Clay Structures and Leprechaun Traps!

Clay Structures

This week was a short but exciting week! Yesterday the kinders stepped into the shoes of an engineer and had the opportunity to build their own creations using clay. It was inspiring to see the structures the kinders came up with. Today we painted them! Next week, the kinders will be challenged to tell me about their structures using the math words we have learned. Check out some of the pictures from our days full of creating:

Leprechaun Traps

In lieu of St. Patrick’s Day on Friday, we read the Book “Leprechaun on the Loose” by Marcia Thornton Jones and Illustrated by Cyd Moore. In the story, a leprechaun frames a student for ruining the class’ St. Patrick’s Day party. The kinders empathized with the student in the story and were very excited when he ended up catching the leprechaun in a trap he made! This inspired the kinders to create leprechaun traps of their own in the box center. After reading, we charted down some of the materials that we might need in order to create the traps. Some of the objects we brainstormed were: string, rainbows, nets, boxes and gold! Ms. W and I gathered the supplies and put them in the box center during recess for the kinders to create with during explore time. The excitement in our classroom also peaked when a leprechaun came onto the intercom and revealed that he hid a shamrock somewhere in our classroom. A lucky kiddo found the shamrock and then visited the office for a special St. Patrick’s day treat.  Here are some pictures of the kinders throughout the day and collaborating to make the traps:
