Using Technology to Learn

Thanks to the use of technology, the Kiddoes were able to access learning opportunities today that would have otherwise been impossible.

In the morning class, the Kiddoes were excited to check Twitter and find out someone had replied to our goo wonder. The individual had told us how to change liquids into semi solids by using a few simple ingredients. Of course Mr. S. and I took this opportunity to bridge curricular outcomes and excitement in learning by enabling the Kiddoes to explore making goo. They were excited to see the physical changes in matter.

In the afternoon class, one Kiddoe who was playing at the farm table was looking at a photo I had of a swath. He asked how the swath was made. Rather than answering the question, we talked about how we could find out an answer. I explained we could look in a book, look on the computer or ask an expert. We decided to ask an expert and promptly facetimed a friend of mine who was actually swathing when we called. He got outside the cab and showed the Kiddoes what it looked like up close and then got back in the cab, showed them what it looked like, and then proceeded to begin to swath so they could see it from the view of the cab. They were incredibly engaged with the entire process.

Technology is shifting the landscape of early learning and I am incredibly excited to watch as it helps the Kiddoes become confident and inquisitive learners.
