New Center Learning

The Kiddoes have been introduced to a host of new learning centres. Take a look at some of the fun we are having!

1) Pumpkin Games:
           a) Pumpkin Counting: The Kiddoes are challenged to arrange the numbers 1 to 10 in order. They are working on the numeracy outcomes: NK.1 - Reciting the number sequence to 10 and NK.3 – Quantities to 10.

           b) Pumpkin Alphabet Matching: Kiddoes are challenged to match upper and lower case letters. They are working on the literacy outcome: CCK.2 - I can identify upper and lower case letters.

           c) What Comes Next: Kiddoes are challenged to figure out the core of a pattern and determine the next element. They are working on the numeracy outcome:  I can add onto a pattern. PK.1

           d) Jack-o-lantern Numbers: Kiddoes fine motor skills are challenged to use tweezers to pick up the correct number of pom poms and fill a corresponding Jack-o-lantern. NK.3 – Quantities to 10.

           e) Working with Tools: This year a new centre to the classroom is going to be a maker space. The Kiddoes will be provided with opportunities to deconstruct and construct/create utilizing random materials. In order to do so, they need to become familiar with a variety of tools. Right now, they are learning to use screwdrivers and screws. Besides working on fine motor skills they are building competencies which will aid them later.

2) Popcorn Table: The Kiddoes are enjoying the sensory table filled with popcorn seeds and a variety of different gourds. Besides having fun, they are working on collaboration and fine motor skills.

3) Bone Match: The Kiddoes are challenged to become doctors (stethoscope and all) and fix/match bones. On each side of a bone is either a capital or lower case letter. Once they fix/match the bone together, they need to write down the match. They are working on the literacy outcome: CCK.2 - I can identify upper and lower case letters.

4) Spooky Table: The sand table is filled with a host of spooky items. The Kiddoes are challenged to create spooky patterns. PK.1 I can create patterns.

5) Grocery Store: The drama centre has been transformed into a grocery store. The Kiddoes have been having a great time buying up some of their favourite items. They are shopping, collaborating, writing receipts, handling money, and pricing items. Thanks again for all the recycling sent to help us set this centre up!

6) Reflections: The Kiddoes are using natural objects to explore reflection and create unique works.

7) Sand Writing: The Kiddoes are using brushes to practice writing letters in sand.

8) Journal Challenges: This week, the Kiddoes are working on pencil grip, fine motor skills as well as relational concepts in a pumpkin challenge.
