New Centres

The Kiddoes were introduced to a few new learning centres this week. Take a look at the fun we are having in the room!!

1) Alphabet Table: Using gems, the Kiddoes are tasked with re-creating the letters of the alphabet. By placing the gems on the mirror, the reflection of light provides a sensory experience in addition to letter recognition. Curricular connections: I can identify upper and lower case letters and try them out in my own writing. CCK.2

Playdough Letters: The Kiddoes are tasked with creating letters with playdough. This experience provides both fine motor and letter recognition practice. Curricular connections: I can identify upper and lower case letters and try them out in my own writing. CCK.2

2) Puppet Theater: The Kiddoes are having a blast making up and recreating stories through the use of puppets. Using the theater appropriately requires a great deal of cooperation. Curricular connections- CCK.3 - Use oral language to converse, engage in play, express ideas, and share personal experiences.

3) Water Table: The Kiddoes and I have begun conversations around the concept of magnetic force. In order to help the Kiddoes internalize this concept, the water table has been set up with a variety of objects (gems, marbles, water beads and magnets) for them to explore. They have been tasked with sorting the objects into those that are magnetic and those that are not by using a magnetic wand. Curricular connections: FEK 1 Examine the effects of physical forces, magnetic forces, light energy, sound energy, and heat energy, on objects in their environment.

4) Zap: The Kiddoes are loving playing a new game in the room called Zap. Sitting in a circle, they pass a container filled with letters of the alphabet. Each time the container is passed, a student reaches in and pulls out a letter. If they know the letter they get to keep it. If not, it goes back into the container. However, if the pull a ZAP card, they have to put their collected letters back into the container. I have been really impressed by the cooperation and self-regulation shown during this game!

5) Numeracy Table: Pipecleaners numbered 1 through 10 have been placed on the table with a container of beads. The Kiddoes have been challenged to create sets according to the number on the pipecleaner they choose. They were doing so well, I added pipecleaners up to 20 this week! It has been fun watching the Kiddoes create patterns while forming sets. Curriculum connection- NK.3 Quantities to 10
