We Made Spring

Today was a unique day in Kindergarten. It started out like any other day, but like it seems to every so often, we quickly got off track! While discussing our displeasure with the weather, we got into a fantastic conversation trying to come up with a variety of words to describe how much we hated the snow. My personal favourites were: "The weather is like stinky banana peels!" and "The weather is like my dad's stinky farts". We then proceeded to discuss if Spring was actually occurring like it is supposed to, what signs we would see.

Once we finished the list, I asked the Kiddoes why I call them "little people". They replied, "Because we can change the world". So I challenged them to figure out a way we could change the weather!! A few Kiddoes posed the idea we could hang up pictures of Spring in our room. However, my favourite suggestion was to paint the snow outside to look like Spring. Now, as you may have realized this year, I am big on having strategies and plans for any instance. Thus, I told the Kiddoes this was a great idea, but..... they needed to have a plan of what to paint. We quickly sat down and began to draw out our ideas of Spring. When each were finished drawing, their job was to label their picture. (See your child's portfolio on Threering to view his/her picture and explanation of what he/she imagines Spring to be like.)

After recess, I met the Kiddoes outside and we began to undertake the process of transferring our images of Spring onto our new "canvas", the snow bank!!

It took an amazing amount of patience and working together in order for the Kiddoes to figure out a way to complete their masterpiece! I was very proud of them all! They actually came up with a way to change the weather!!
